Pro poker player facing federal drug charges

| Oct 12, 2018 | Federal Crimes |

A professional poker player has another source of income, according to prosecutors — distributing significant amounts of marijuana from Long Island, New York, down the coast to the Baltimore area and as far as Virginia. As of Oct. 1, he’s facing federal charges for distributing at least 100 kilograms of marijuana around Baltimore.

Micah Raskin, who reportedly has earned nearly $2 million in his worldwide tournament play over the years, was already looking at up to eight years behind bars on drug and weapons charges after his arrest this February in Long Island.

That arrest followed a multijurisdictional drug-trafficking investigation that started in November of last year. He was accused of receiving and storing drugs, both in his home as well as in a storage facility. The Nassau County District Attorney said that “this alleged dealer’s time living the high life selling drugs is over.”

Authorities say they recovered over 350 pounds of marijuana valued at over $500,000. They say they also found hash oils with a potential street value of as much as $340,000. They reportedly also seized a gun, $140,000 in cash, two vehicles and artwork valued at over $100,000.

Nassau County prosecutors in Long Island say that the 50-year-old Raskin used a courier to take the marijuana down the coast, where they were sold to customers in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia for $1,400 a pound.

Federal drug charges carry serious penalties. It’s essential to have the guidance of an experienced Maryland defense attorney who knows how the federal justice system works to protect your rights and work to seek the best possible outcome.
