A Prince Georges father enters guilty plea for his son’s death

On Behalf of | Aug 9, 2017 | Criminal Defense |

A 32-year-old Prince George’s County man pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 to fatally wounding his 2-month-old son.

The transcript of the court proceedings that day don’t go into much detail about how police first became aware of the child’s death. They do, however, recount how the father and 24-year-old mother of newborn confessed to killing the child.

Seemingly the child’s crying had begun aggravating the father a few days before his arrest. It’s then that the baby’s father decided to bring him outside, where he held him by both arms. He confessed to punching him repeatedly with a closed fist until a point at which he saw his son bleeding from both his mouth and nose. The father reportedly said it’s at point that he realized that his son had died.

Once he realized his child had died, the baby’s father then confessed to taking his body and placing it inside the rear of his car, a former hearse. The man reportedly carried his son’s body in the back of that Lincoln Town Car for more than 24 hours after that.

After driving around with the body in his car for 24 hours, the baby’s father and mother reportedly confessed to driving to Parkdale High School, where they dug a shallow grave. They buried the baby there.

In the months leading up to the man entering his plea, prosecutors had refused to strike a deal with the man. He is therefore facing as much as 40 years in prison. Prosecutors have said that they intend to request that the judge imposes the maximum sentence in this case.

As for the child’s mother, she stands accused of involuntary manslaughter. Her trial will be held right before the turn of the new year.

In a criminal case as this, there are often opportunities for the defense to strike plea deals with prosecutors to reduce prospective sentences. In discussing the specifics of your case with a Clinton, Maryland, criminal defense attorney, it may be possible to determine whether a plea deal is an option that can be pursued in your particular legal matter.
