Drug lab administrator accused of stealing drugs

On Behalf of | Jan 3, 2017 | Drug Charges |

The police run a drug lab in Maryland that, among other things, offers people a way to get rid of prescription drugs they don’t want or need. There’s a drop box where they can dispose of them.

However, the administrator who runs the lab is now facing drug charges, and the 48-year-old woman has been accused of taking them directly from that box. Police say that the drug were originally discovered in her vehicle. They then began backtracking and traced them straight to the department’s own drop box.

The drugs in question were opioid painkillers.

At this time, police are not sure how much of the inventory may be missing. The woman has been suspended from her position and the lab’s activities are on hold for now while they investigate. The area police chief reached out to the Drug Enforcement Administration and asked if they could go through and audit the inventory to see what drugs the department still had.

The woman has been working at her post for years, having landed the job in 2012. At this point, no statements from her have been released in news reports and records from court do not even indicate whether or not she has hired a legal team to represent her.

In cases like this, knowing your legal defense options is very important. These types of accusations can lead to significant fines and jail time, not to mention the loss of a career. For someone who has been working on building that career for years or even decades, that’s a huge blow, and it’s very important to get a fair trial.
