| Oct 6, 2016 | Drug Charges |

If you aren’t familiar with the most common types of drug crimes, it’s possible that you could find yourself in trouble with the law without ever really knowing what you did wrong. Is this a risk you want to take?

There are both state and federal laws that cover all types of drug crimes. With this in mind, it’s easy to see just how complicated things can become if you are charged with a crime.

Here is a short list of common types of drug crimes, all of which should be taken seriously:

— Drug paraphernalia. This describes any type of equipment that is used to prepare or consume illegal drugs. It is against the law to sell or use drug paraphernalia, which can include but is not limited to syringes, bongs, and rolling papers.

— Possession. A crime under both state and federal drug laws, this is when a person illegally possesses a controlled substance, such as heroin or cocaine.

Drug manufacturing. As the name suggests, this is when a person is involved in producing an illegal drug.

— Drug trafficking. This is one of the most serious drug crimes, as it is often charged as a felony. It’s illegal to transport, import, or sell any illegal controlled substance.

As you can see, there are many details associated with each type of drug crime. Furthermore, these can overlap at times.

With so much gray area, with so many questions to answer, if you or a loved one are charged with any type of drug crime, make sure you learn more about your legal rights in Maryland.
