DUI arrest made when a car hits a building in Maryland

On Behalf of | Sep 18, 2014 | Drunk Driving |

A man was driving his vehicle in Maryland on a Friday night when he was involved in an accident. He survived the incident, but the police picked him up for driving under the influence when all was said and done.

The crash took place at about 10:45, and it was in Frederick, Maryland. Police from that city said that it happened near the intersection where East South Street and South Market Street come together. The man was driving a sedan, and the vehicle apparently left the roadway and slammed into an apartment building. That building is on South Market Street.

However, the damage was more than just cosmetic. The crash tore one of the gas lines loose, and it came off of the building. The gas leak forced the local police to evacuate people from the apartments and to close off the whole area while the issue was dealt with. They had help in that regard from Frederick County Fire and Rescue. After everything was deemed safe, they let people come back home and allowed traffic to use the street again.

The man who caused the accident was then booked on multiple charges relating to driving under the influence. He is 37 years old, and he is from Texas.

No matter how the police determine that drunk driving charges are warranted, it is important for those who have been arrested in a situation like this — or one that does not involve an accident — to know all of their rights. They should also know what options they have, in a legal sense, after they are charged.
