Man flees police in Maryland, is apprehended

On Behalf of | Apr 25, 2014 | Drug Charges |

A man who the police suspected was selling drugs was apprehended in Maryland. The police first were able to get warrants for two different locations. When they came to one of the locations to act on those warrants, the man allegedly tried to run from them in a vehicle.

While running, he reportedly tried to get rid of the evidence of his alleged crime so that he would not face drug charges. Police say that he threw the bags of crack cocaine out of the vehicle’s windows. In all, he tossed 14 separate bags from the car. Eventually, he was caught, and the police then seized two of his vehicles and searched his home.

During the search, police reportedly found many things that related to the crimes they suspected he was committing, including a scale, marijuana, a pair of cellphones and over $7,000 in cash. They also retrieved crack cocaine to the tune of 52 grams, which has an estimated value of right around $100 per gram, or $5,200 in total. Finally, they found an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

The man has now been released to wait for his trial.

After an arrest on suspicion of drug distribution, it is wise for anyone who has been accused to look into his or her legal options to determine what course of action should be taken. Whether they choose to plead guilty or go to trial, they do have a right to a fair trial, so part of their focus should be on learning what the charges mean in their case and what sort of a sentence they might receive.

They may also want to consider the legalities of the way they were apprehended to see if the case was mishandled by the police. That could help them fight the charges if they believe they are not guilty.
