According to police in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, an investigation into massive numbers of batteries from campers and boats terminated with the arrest of two men.

In a joint effort between the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Special Enforcement Section Metal Theft Unit and the Maryland Natural Resources Police, investigators are now seeking charges against two men who lifted several quantities of boat and camper batteries from several areas in Pasadena.

After tailing a female associate of one of the men, detectives were able to do surveillance at a residence on the 8400 block of Greenway Road in Pasadena, and identify one suspect. The 22-year-old man was observed leaving the premises and fleeing to the woods nearby.

A Dodge Intrepid was observed picking up the man with three passengers inside. The vehicle was driven to the Riviera Beach Community, and later found by police near Main Avenue on Park Road but two of the passengers were not in it.

After combing the woods, the second person, also 22, and the first man attempted to flee from officers and hide near Riviera Beach and Stoney Creek. One man was arrested and the second detained on the scene.

Police discovered them near a stash of batteries. Suspects later admitted to stealing camper and boat batteries from at least 15 addresses from the neighborhoods of Sunset Beach, Orchard Beach and Chelsea Beach.

Investigators stated that while they have been confirmed stolen, many victims had not reported them to police. The two men have been charged with theft and destruction. Other individuals have been involved and so far charges against them are pending.
