Deputy charged in Prince George County in need of defense

On Behalf of | Feb 14, 2014 | Criminal Defense |

A sheriff’s officer from Prince George County, Maryland, has been convicted of a crime. While he was on duty in June 2012, he had sex with an inmate. This earned the gentleman involved one year in prison.

The former Prince George County Sheriff’s deputy pleaded guilty in August 2013 to one count of misconduct in office. He also pleaded guilty to having sex with an inmate. The 33–year–old man reportedly had sex with a 36–year–old inmate who was in a Prince George County holding cell. While the former sheriff’s deputy told the court that the sex was consensual, the woman involved swears she did not have a choice in the matter and felt compelled to have non-consensual sex with the sheriff’s deputy.

The woman involved was in the holding cell to be presented to a judge at the courthouse annex when she and the sheriff’s deputy had sex. The prosecutors report that the sex the two engaged in was consensual, however the woman has filed a fifteen million dollar civil suit against the state of Maryland because she felt that she had no say in the matter of having sex with the deputy. The deputy was suspended without pay when the woman made her claim and the allegation came forth, and is, of course, no longer associated with the Prince County, Maryland, Sheriff’s Office in any way. The Sheriff at that time immediately came forward and said that the deputy had made a grave mistake. The civil suit is to be held in April of 2014. When the man finishes his year term in jail he will then be put on 18 months of supervised probation.
